(EMBRUN, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating several incidents after responding to 255 calls for service from Sunday September 6 to Saturday September 12. Among those occurrences OPP responded to 7 domestic disputes, one fatal collision, voyeurism, harassment, drug offences and 2 impaired related occurrences.
As a result of those occurrences, one female and five males were charged with various offences.
Russell Fair education day
Our new Community Service Officer Provincial Constable Cynthia Savard along with the Russell Fire Department and the local farmers successfully participated to the “Today’s Farms, Today’s technology” at the Russell Fair on Friday September 11.
Local man dies in collision
At 5:48 am on September 12th, the Ontario Provincial Police, Russell Fire Department and the Prescott and Russell Emergency Services responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Eadie Road. The initial investigation revealed that a 1996 GMC Sierra was travelling southbound and lost control.
Robert Donner, age 23 of Russell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The OPP Technical Collision Investigators attend the scene and the cause of this collision is still under investigation. Provincial Constable Karim Davis leads the investigation. The deceased was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision and alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor.
Domestic Disputes
OPP officers investigated 7 domestic disputes from Sunday to Saturday. One female was charged with one count of fail to comply with her undertaking. No other criminal offences occurred.
Two Male Charged for Public Intoxication
Early on Saturday September 12, shortly after 1:00 am OPP officers intercepted two intoxicated males dangerously crossing the road in Russell. Lane Kirkwood, age 20 and Wade Kropp, age 19 were arrested for the offence of public intoxication.
Impaired Driver
Jean Aube, age 60 of Vankleek Hill and Daniel Lepage, age 57 of Cumberland were arrested on separate incidents and charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs of alcohol. They were released on a promise to appear in court in L’Orignal on at the end of September.
Drug related offence
On September 6, officers located two suspicious male behind the Beer Store on Laurier St in Clarence-Rockland. Provincial Constable Marc Leblanc and Provincial Constable Michel Corbeil observed drug paraphernalia in their vehicle. Nicolas Levesque, age 27 and Kenneth Sherman, age 29 were arrested for possession of cannabis. Following the search incident to the arrest, officers located speed and cocaine. They were released to appear in court in L’Orignal on October 7.
