Driver Arrested After Failing to Stop for Police

(Cavan-Monaghan Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a speeding motor vehicle last night just after 10:00pm that was travelling on Highway 115 south of Peterborough County Road 10.

The vehicle exited the highway and attempted to turn onto Tapley ¼ Line, however, the driver failed to negotiate the turn and the motor vehicle left the roadway.

Both the driver and a male passenger from the involved motor vehicle were transported to a local hospital where the driver was treated and later released. The male passenger sustained more serious injuries and remains in hospital.

As a result of this collision, the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate. Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.

The area near Tapley ¼ Line was closed overnight for the investigation, but has since reopened.

The driver, a 24-year old female from Selwyn Township, ON has been arrested and is facing a number of charges related to this incident. She is scheduled to appear in at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Peterborough later today for a Bail Hearing.
