Man Arrested After Taking Back Seized Marijuana From Officer

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 19, 2015 at approximately 9:42 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 1991 Chevrolet that was swerving within its lane on County Road 125 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Police detected the strong odour of marihuana emanating from the vehicle as they were speaking with the driver. The male surrendered a baggie of marihuana and was placed under arrest.

Police subsequently searched the vehicle trunk and located a large baggie which contained smaller baggies of marihuana. The male was advised that he was under arrest for possession of marihuana over 30 grams. The male grabbed the bag out the officer’s hand and attempted to flee the scene. A brief struggle ensued and the male was taken into custody.

29-year-old Ryun Butcher of Toronto has been charged with Possession of Marihuana – Over 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Obstruct Peace Officer and Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on November 17, 2015 to answer to his charges.
