Impaired And Disqualified Drivers Caught

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2:45 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision at John Street and Highway 11/17.

The driver of a Honda Accord was westbound on John Street approaching the off ramp to Highway 11/17 when the driver lost control, struck a street sign on the traffic island and entered the east bound ditch on Highway 11/17.

Further investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol. Officers detected an odour of alcohol emitting from the drivers breath and the driver exhibited obvious signs of impairment. Subsequently, the driver was found to be over the legal limit.

Kayla DESCHENES, 23 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor vehicle and and Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code.

She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on November 24, 2015 to answer to the charges.

On Monday, September 28 at approximately 8:30 pm, an officer was on patrol when the officer observed a vehicle speeding on Hunt Road in Conmee Township. The officer received information through the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system that the driver in question may be suspended. The officer conducted a traffic stop and further investigation revealed the driver was driving while disqualified.

Donald WILTSHIRE, 28 years of age, from O’Connor Township was arrested and charged with Driving While Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code. He was held in custody for a video court appearance.
