(North Kawartha Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist in locating a missing hiker yesterday just before 8:00pm.
A female went hiking alone around 2:00pm, with plans to return home before dark. Family became concerned just before 8:00pm when she still had not returned to the cabin. OPP members from the Peterborough County Detachment attended the area with ATVs and requested assistance from the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit and Aviation Services.
OPP members on ATVs heard a banging noise in response to their calling out to the missing woman, just after 11:30pm. ERT members were brought into the area and ultimately located the hiker, who had sought shelter in a hunt camp, just after 1:00am. The woman had a minor ankle injury, but was otherwise uninjured.
