Wingham has rednecks and racists, and this has become abundantly clear when the topic of Refugees comes up.
The number one excuse not to help is “we should help our own first”. I agree we should help our own first. Once we have helped all Canadians that are currently being bombed and slaughtered by the Canadian Government, only then should we offer to help.
Some of you may have seen the unfiltered news from Syria. Streets turned crimson by the blood of slaughtered children and the desperate parents killed by government snipers as they try to cross the street to get water and food for their starving and terrified family huddled in the rubble. 20,000 children didn’t find a safe sanctuary, they are dead.
Wingham is divided on the issue of accepting refuges, that is deplorable.
If you don’t believe these victims need help, you are a fraction of a human completely devoid of empathy.
Virtually everyone reading this is a descendant of an Immigrant. What were your ancestors fleeing when they came to Canada? Were their lives at risk if they stayed in the “Old Country”? If so, you are morally bound to offer safe haven for others in the same situation. If your ancestors came here and their lives weren’t at risk, you too have no moral grounds to reject the pleas for sanctuary from a family in greater need than yours was.
If these crimes against Humanity happened in Canada you would likely do everything in your power to stop it and/or help those affected. Country of birth should not dictate if someone is worthy of your compassion, if it does you are a racist.
The number two excuse is “I’m too busy”. I’ll be blunt for once. “I’m too busy” & “I’ll pray for them” are just two different ways to say you don’t care enough to actually help.
