North Perth Residents Facing Drug Charge After RIDE Check

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Listowel conducted a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) program on Victoria Ave south at Elma St west shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday February 7th 2016.

A vehicle entered the RIDE program and while officers were speaking with the occupants the odour of marihuana was detected inside the vehicle. Marihuana was turned over to police by one of the vehicle occupant and additional marihuana was located on one of the occupants.

35-year-old Christopher GILE and 32-year-old Susana MELO both residents of the Municipality of North Perth were arrested and have each been charged with “possession of a schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams”, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. They were released on an Appearance Notice and are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on March 25, 2016, to answer to the charges.
