Collision Closes Hwy 6

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment investigated a tractor-trailer vs tractor-trailer collision at the intersection of Hwy #6 and 3rd Line Road, Haldimand County, ON.

On Tuesday February 16th, 2016 at approximately 7:20 am Emergency Services responded to the collision after a white 2007 Peterbilt tractor trailer unit and a white 2004 International tractor trailer unit collided.

Investigation revealed that the Peterbilt transport truck being operated by a 62 year old male Jean L’ETOILE of Oxford County, ON was eastbound on 3rd Line when it entered the intersection of Hwy #6 colliding with the northbound International transport truck being operated by a 25 year old male Kyle VAN GAALEN of Norfolk County, ON. The impact caused a quantity of fuel to leak out. The spill was contained to the highway.

The Ministry of Environment (MOE) was notified and a clean-up company attended the scene to remove the spilt fuel.

Mr. L’ETOILE sustained non-life threatening injuries; Mr. VAN GAALEN was not injured.

As a result of the investigation, Jean L’ETOILE was charged with failing to yield. He was issued a Provincial Offence notice for the charge.

Hwy #6 was closed for several hours to allow for investigation and clean-up.
