Man Succumbs To Injuries After Getting Pinned By Homemade Trailer

On the 24th of April 2016 at 3:40 p.m, Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were dispatched to a residence/Farm on Ron McNeil Line near Buis Line, Malahide Township in regards to a report of 48 year-old male trapped under a trailer.

Police, EMS and Fire attended the scene where the male was found deceased.

Police investigation revealed that the male had been working under the canopy of a homemade trailer used for hauling ATV’s and snowmobiles. The canopy, which was made of heavy plate steel, fell and pinned the male across the waist area between the canopy and the trailer platform. It is believed that the male could have been pinned for up to half an hour.

Police have identified the deceased as Paul Corneilius VANDERWYST, age 48, of that address.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for today. Police continue to investigate the incident; however foul play is not suspected.
