(ST JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 29, 2016, at 10:36 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of two people that had been assaulted at a residence in St Joseph Township.
Police attended the residence and determined an argument had ensued between two males and a female. As a result of the investigation, Calvin FLEMING, 39 years of age, from St Joseph Township, Ontario, was charged with: Assault (X2), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 7, 2016.
MALE CHARGED FOR USING HIS CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING
(THESSALON) – On May 28, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the Town of Thessalon.
At 8:06 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle on Highway 17 and the driver was using his cell phone while operating his vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Ricky USELTON, 66 years of age, from Pennsylvania was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Drive-Hand Held Communication Device, contrary to section 78.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
There is good research that indicates that distracted drivers are more likely to cause collisions and serious injury than impaired drivers. It is the responsibility of every driver to devote all of their attention to driving.
