Boating Collisions

(MUSKOKA LAKES TWP, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate two separate boating collisions that occurred in the Bracebridge area over the weekend.

On Saturday July 16, 2016 at approximately 12:30 pm on Bass Lake an inner tube being towed by a boat collided with a stationary personal watercraft (PWC). The collision resulted in non-life threatening injuries to the two people on the inner tube. The Bracebridge OPP marine unit continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

On Sunday July 17, 2016 in the afternoon, on Lake Muskoka near Stonewall Island, two boats collided with each other while travelling on open water. There were no injuries resulting from the collision and the Bracebridge OPP marine unit continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

The Bracebridge OPP is reminding boaters of safe boating practices.

Be aware of your surroundings, especially while operating any motorized vehicle or vessel.

Check your Boat. Familiarize yourself with the boat you are operating.

Have all required safety equipment & PFD/Lifejacket for each person on board

Be Prepared. Mechanical breakdowns occur frequently and are preventable. Part of being prepared is also making sure that the weather and water conditions are suitable for your day out on the water.

Plan ahead. Remember when things go wrong on the water, it happens very quickly and you don’t always have time to react. Always discuss plans with someone on land before boating.

Don’t mix drinking alcohol and boating.
