Turkey Vulture Involved In Collision

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment investigated a collision at a River Road, Oneida, Haldimand County, Ontario address.

On Sunday, July 17, 2016 at approximately 9:56 a.m., officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving an animal.

Through the course of investigation, it has been determined that a motor vehicle was travelling on River Road when a turkey vulture flew into the vehicles windshield.

The driver, a 60-year-old male from Haldimand, Ontario was able to safely stop his motor vehicle without further incident. A passenger in the vehicle was also uninjured.

Police are urging all drivers to expect the unexpected and to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Drivers need to focus their attention on their driving ability and avoid any unnecessary distractions.

“It’s not always possible to avoid a collision with an animal, particularly if it suddenly runs or flies onto the road. But drivers can take sensible precautions to minimize the risk of a collision. Motorists are being urged to drive with caution and within the speed limit and to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
