(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A novice driver from Kitchener is facing a number of charges following a traffic stop that took place over the weekend south of Exeter. At approximately 1:42 a.m. on July 23, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a traffic complaint about a vehicle travelling northbound on London Road (Highway 4) down the middle of the road.
Officers were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle, a Mercedes C24 sedan on London Road near Kirkton Road. While speaking with the male driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and searched. Upon searching the motor vehicle officers located a small quantity of marihuana.
The driver was transported to the Exeter OPP detachment where he subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit. Further investigation revealed the validation sticker on the licence plate was expired and the driver was driving in contravention of his licence conditions.
As a result, 28-year-old Robert MILLER from Kitchener has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Marihuana), Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate and Drive Motor in Contravention of Conditions. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on August 22, 2016. He was served with a 90-day automatic driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
