(HAMILTON, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division’s (HSD) Burlington Detachment and the HSD Traffic Support Unit are continuing in the investigation of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and two bicycles on Highway 5 in Hamilton.
At about 11:35 am, on Sunday, July 31, 2016, OPP officers responded to the report of two cyclists struck by a vehicle on Highway 5 just west of Sydenham Road in the Flamborough area of the City of Hamilton. Two males approximately 45 years old were cycling eastbound on Highway 5 and were struck from the rear by a passenger vehicle. One cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries. The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured. No identities are being released pending notification of next-of-kin.
Highway 5 is expected to be closed to traffic from Millgrove Side Road to Ofield Road in both directions until 4:00 pm to allow the safe investigation of the incident.
