Rahuljit BHOGAL – 128 in a 60

(CALEDON, ON) – On Saturday, September 3, 2016 a Traffic Unit officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on Mayfield Road near Summer Valley Drive in the Town of Caledon. The officer observed a red 2011 Volkswagen travelling at a high rate of speed and determined the vehicle speed to be 128 km/hr. in a 60 km/hr. zone. Subsequently, the officer conducted a vehicle stop.

As a result of the traffic stop, Rahuljit BHOGAL, 31, of Brampton was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Caledon on October 17, 2016.

Driving 50 or more km/h. over the posted speed limit is one of the most serious and reckless forms of aggressive driving. The OPP supports street racing/stunt driving legislation and other legislation aimed at saving lives and taking drivers who engage in these high-risk behaviours off the road. A study conducted by Western University and the Ministry of Transportation revealed that there are approximately 58% fewer speed-related deaths and injuries a month, particularly for young males, since the law took effect in 2007.
