(MALAHIDE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 18, 2016, at approximately 8:37 p.m., members of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Elgin County and Oxford County Fire Departments, and the Elgin County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a motor vehicle collision on Richmond Road at Vienna Line.
A black Honda motorcycle travelling northbound on Richmond Road, and a blue Chrysler van travelling westbound on Vienna Line, collided in the intersection. Vienna Line is governed by stop signs.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old male from Bayham Township, Ontario, died at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
The passenger on the motorcycle was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The four occupants of the van were all transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are on scene to assist with the investigation. As a result, the intersection remains closed, and motorists will have to find alternative routes.
This incident remains under investigation. An update will be released when further details are available.
