Drug Bust At RIDE

(SUDBURY, ON)- On December 5, 2016, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) established a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) initiative on Highway 17 in the City of Greater Sudbury.

At approximately 3:55 pm, officers had occasion to check a vehicle occupied by a male driver who stopped at the R.I.D.E. program.

Officers detected the odor of marihuana emanating from interior of the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, police located and seized a quantity of drugs inside the vehicle. (see attached photo)

The driver, Darren BRIMNER, 39 years of age from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with the following:

Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA – two counts

Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana – over 30 grams, 4(1) CDSA

Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram, 4(1) CDSA

Possession of a Schedule III substance, 4(1) CDSA

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on January 18, 2017, to answer to his charges.
