(POITRAS TOWNSHIP, ON) – On December 11, 2016, at approximately 10:15 a.m., members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 63, in Poitras Township.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers noted a vehicle upside down blocking the northbound lane. The driver and the passenger were out of the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Randy WABANO, age 31, of North Bay, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).
Fail to Comply with Probation, contrary to section 733.1 CC
Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
The accused was held for bail and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on December 12, 2016.
The driver and the passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital by North Bay and District Ambulance Service.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe consumption amount of alcohol or drug when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
