(INGERSOLL, ON.) – An officer from the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the Town of Ingersoll near the railroad crossing at Mutual Street on November 26, 2014 at approximately 2:45 p.m.
The officer observed two teenage female youths cross the railroad crossing on foot after the lights had been activated and the safety crossing gate/barrier had come down. The two youths were cautioned and their parents advised of their very unsafe behavior.
OPP would like to remind the public of the need to use extra caution when entering any and all railroad crossings, either on foot or in a vehicle. There are many such crossings throughout the county some with visible barriers and many others with signage only.
Charges under The Highway Traffic Act that can apply include:
Disobey railway crossing signal at railway crossing
Disobey crossing gate
Both offences carry a $110 fine and three demerit points.
