Youth Charged with Theft

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth following a theft complaint in Blenheim.

On Saturday, October 5, 2013 shortly after 2:00 p.m. a 39-year-old man rode his bicycle to a store on Chatham Street North. The man parked his bicycle in the bike rack and upon exiting the store, it was stolen. Later that same day, the youth was observed riding the bicycle and the officer noticed the serial number had been scratched off. The officer seized the bike for investigative purposes as it had not been reported stolen yet. Through investigation, the officer determined the identity of the owner and the man positively identified his bike at the Blenheim station on Monday, October 7, 2013.

Last night, the 17-year-old Blenheim youth was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
