On September 14, 2013 at 8:30 p.m., the Guelph Police became involved with a male after receiving a call that he had harmed himself. Police observed the male running eastbound along the train tracks located south of Foster Avenue. A short foot pursuit ensued after police attempted to speak with the male and ascertain his mental state and well-being. As an officer caught up to the male, identifying himself as a police officer numerous times, the youth swung his right arm around toward the officer, missing his face. The male had a piece of sharp glass in the hand that he swung. The officer was able to subdue the male, remove the glass from his possession and an arrest was made. The officer was not injured.
A 17-year-old Guelph male has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of weapons dangerous. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
