Woman Charged With Beating Puppy To Death

(Prince Edward County, ON) On November 18, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment received information of an incident where a puppy had been beaten to death. The police investigation revealed that the incident occurred following a domestic assault. A woman had assaulted her boyfriend earlier in the month. It is alleged that sometime after the assault the woman had killed and disposed of the puppy.

On December 02, 2013 OPP arrested a 23-year old Picton woman. The accused is a awaiting a bail hearing today in Belleville court.

The accused is charged with the following offences:

Assault, contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Killing or Injuring Animals Other Than Cattle, contrary to Section 445 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Breach of Probation, contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

To protect the identity of the assault victim, the accused’s name is not being released. The police investigation is continuing.
