Woman Beater Turns On Police – Man” Arrested”

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 14, 2017, shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that occurred on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Police learned that a male had assaulted his girlfriend while she was attempting to run from him. While police were speaking with the boyfriend, the male became irate and assaulted one of the officers.

On February 20, 2017, police learned the 42 year old male had breached his conditions by engaging in an argument with his girlfriend. Investigation determined the male had assaulted his girlfriend once more and was a suspended driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 42 year old male from Bruce Mines, Ontario was charged with:

Assault – Spousal (X3), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC;

Assault Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC;

Uttering Threats-Cause or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;

Fail to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC; and

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on February 22, 2017.

TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO MALE BEING CHARGED

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On February 17, 2017, shortly after 12:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a pick-up driving erratically on Highway 17 in the Town of Iron Bridge.

Police located the pick-up and spoke with the driver. Police observed an unopened bottle of alcohol in the vehicle. Police learned the male driver was on conditions to abstain from the purchase, possession and consumption of alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Jason BERGERON, 31 years of age, from Espanola, Ontario, was charged with: Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 2, 2017.
