On 4 August, Wingham Police received three calls regarding various scams. Two involved the CRA scam that has been widely spread through our area. In this scam, the culprit will contact the individual and advise that they have broken the law and police are on the way to arrest them. They then demand money by way of pre-paid credit card or gift cards. Canada Revenue Agency does not accept payment in these forms. In another scam, a resident transferred money to an off shore financial institution in order to obtain a loan. Please note that no legitimate loan agency demands money up front for you to borrow money. Police are asking the public to remain vigilant in these matters.
