(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – On December 17, 2016, at approximately 3:58 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region (WR) Highway Enforcement Team (HET) conducted a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Highway 401 westbound, at the Veteran’s Memorial Parkway off ramp, in the City on London, Ontario.
A motor vehicle entered the checkpoint, and officers determined that the 51-year-old male driver of the white GMC van had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening device was administered, and the driver registered a “fail”. He was placed under arrest, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for further breath testing, which revealed he had consumed more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.
As a result of the police investigation, William CROFT, from Ingersoll, Ontario, has been charged with driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was further charged under the Liquor Licence Act (LLA) with driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, and under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with driver fail to surrender licence.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in the London courts on January, 30, 2017.
