West Parry Sound Weekly Report

WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 8, 2016 at 4:50 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) spot check on Highway 518, when they observed a motor vehicle attempt to avoid the R.I.D.E. check. The vehicle was subsequently stopped.

As a result of the officer’s investigation, Amy OPAVSKY, 49 years of age from Bracebridge was charged with “having liquor in open container other than licenced premises, residence or private place” contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.

COMPLAINT OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVER LEADS TO CHARGE

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 8, 2016 at 4:59 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a southbound motor vehicle on Highway 69 in the Archipelago Township travelling in an aggressive manner. Police attended the area and located the subject motor vehicle.

As a result of the officer’s investigation, Tyler GOFETTO, 24 years of age from Barrie was charged with speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

MALE CHARGED AFTER MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 612

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 8, 2016 at 7:53 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Seguin Fire Department and Muskoka Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 612 in the Township of Seguin.

OPP investigation revealed that a male was operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on Highway 612 when he crossed a set of railway tracks and entered a nearby ditch. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to local hospital.

As a result of the investigation, Dakota LAINE, 23 years of age from Bradford was charged with;

Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA)

Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the HTA

Fail To Apply for Permit On Becoming an Owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA

Off Road Vehicle – Not Properly insured, contrary to section 17 of the HTA, Ontario Regulation 316/03

Driver Fail To Surrender Licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA

The OPP are reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUGS

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 8, 2016, at 10:52 p.m., officers with the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. A traffic stop was conducted.

During the stop, officers observed Cannabis Marihuana and as such, the occupants of the motor vehicle were arrested and the vehicle was searched.

As a result of the investigation, Joao PEREIRA, 26 years of age from York, Ontario was charged with;

Possession of Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on November 3, 2016 to answer to his charges.

OPP CHARGE STUNT DRIVER

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 10, 2016 at approximately 4:05 p.m., a member of the West Parry Sound OPP was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. The officer observed a motor vehicle travelling at more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted.

The driver of the motor vehicle, Victoria FRAME, 23 years of age from Penetanguishene was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed greater than 50km/hr. over the speed limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. (HTA)

She will appear before the Parry Sound Provincial Offences Court on November 22, 2016 to answer to his charge.

SPEEDING VIOLATION LEADS TO SUSPENDED DRIVER

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 13, 2016, at 9:49 p.m., an officer with the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 400 in McDougall Township. A traffic stop was conducted.

As a result of the stop and subsequent investigation, Timothy GIRLING, 48 years of age from Toronto was charged with;

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA

Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA

The accused will appear before the Parry Sound Provincial Offences Court on November 22, 2016 to answer to his charges.
