(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – Members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment were busy over the Civic Day Long Weekend, August 1 to August 4, 2014.
The OPP were focused to keep our roads, our waterways and our trails safe and free of aggressive, distracted and impaired driving behaviours as well as ensuring that all vehicle occupants were buckled up. Officers dedicated 84 hours to Road Patrol, 30 hours to Marine Patrol and 7.5 hours to Trail Patrol.
The West Parry Sound OPP laid the following driving infractions over the weekend:
4 Fail to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle
2 Impaired Driving By Alcohol and Over 80 Blood Alcohol Content
62 Speeding – 1 to 49 km/h over the posted speed limit
2 Stunt / Speeding – 50 km/h over the posted speed limit
4 Seatbelts
2 Distracted Driving
44 other Provincial Offences
The “Big Four†driving behaviours that contribute to road fatalities in Ontario are seatbelts, aggressive, distracted and impaired driving. The OPP targets the “Big Four†as part of its Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP) in their efforts to save lives.
