WEEKEND UPDATE FOR ORILLIA DETACHMENT

(ORILLIA, ON) – Over the past weekend, the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 114 calls for service. Police responded to calls received from Severn Township, Ramara Township and the City of Orillia. The time frame is from Friday night at 6:00 p.m. until Monday morning at 6:00 a.m.

There were various calls for service consisting of noise complaints, 911 hang-ups, motor vehicle collisions, domestic/family disputes, theft complaints and Liquor Licence Act complaints.

On January 17, 2014 at approximately 11:35 p.m., Orillia OPP officers were conducting RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Westmount Drive north in Orillia. Officers arrested a male driver at the location of the spot check.

Kenneth FERRIS, 54 years old of Orillia, was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80 milligrams Blood/Alcohol. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date in Orillia on February 25, 2014. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days.

On January 17, 2014 at approximately 10:40 p.m., an Orillia OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling north on Highway 12 in Ramara Township. The vehicle was speeding and did not have proper lights. The officer activated his emergency lights but the vehicle did not stop and proceeded to speed off. The vehicle was located on Concession 7 of Ramara Township but the driver had abandoned the vehicle. The driver was located a short time later and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and Breach of Recognizance.

Jason BEARD, 36 years old of Toronto, was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing today.
