WEEKEND UPDATE FOR ORILLIA DETACHMENT

(ORILLIA, ON) – Over the past weekend, the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 191 calls for service. Police responded to calls received from Severn Township, Ramara Township and the City of Orillia. The time frame is from Friday night at 6:00 p.m. until Monday morning at 6:00 a.m.

There were various calls for service consisting of noise complaints, alarm, 911 hang-ups, motor vehicle collisions, domestic/family disputes, theft, Liquor Licence Act complaints, and impaired drivers.

On September 6, 2014 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Orillia OPP responded to a marine accident on the Severn River in which a vessel had struck Buckskin Island.

When officers arrived at the scene they located the four occupants of the vessel, two females had been injured and were transported to hospital. The operator of the vessel was arrested at the scene.

Daniel BALLANTINE, 42 years old of Richmond Hill, has been charged with two counts of Impaired Operation of a Vessel Cause Bodily Harm. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On September 7, 2014 at approximately 5:13 a.m., the Orillia OPP was contacted by a member of the public in relation to a possible impaired driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and stopped it near Highway 12 and Memorial Avenue where the male driver was arrested.

Harsimrandeep KHATTARA, 27 years old of Ramara Township, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80 milligrams Blood/Alcohol. He was released on a Promise to Appear and will appear in Orillia court on September 30, 2014.

On September 7, 2014 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Orillia OPP responded to reports of an injured male party at a Severn Township address. Officers attended a Fairgrounds Road address where they located a 23 year old Severn Township man suffering from serious injuries after falling approximately 50 feet from a homemade zip line. He was transported by air ambulance to a Toronto area trauma centre.
