Wear a white ribbon in support of ending violence against women

(Ottawa) The 2013 White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women is November 25 to December 6, 2013. The Ottawa Police Service is a proud supporter of this initiative.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a worldwide effort to eliminate men’s violence against women. Everyone, men in particular, are urged to wear a white ribbon starting on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women until December 6, Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

“Ending violence against women is one of my top priorities and I am pleased to have our members participate in this initiative,” said Chief Charles Bordeleau. “This campaign aims to raise awareness about violence against women and sends an important message that it is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated.”

The goal of the White Ribbon Campaign is to end violence against women by:

Educating young people, especially young men and boys about ending violence against women;
Challenging everyone to speak out;
Getting people to think about their own beliefs, language and actions on this issue.

“Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of social or economic class, race or age group,” said Superintendent Don Sweet, head of the Criminal Investigations Directorate. “We all have a responsibility to end violence against women. If you see it, report it.”
