(Bancroft, Ontario) – During the month of September 2013 the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to 13 motor vehicle collisions. 5 of the collisions involved vehicle/wild life. Many of the collisions occurred on Sundays between 12:00p.m. and 8:00p.m. Motorists are encouraged to always be watching for wildlife on the roads in the Bancroft and surrounding area, especially between dusk and dawn.
The Bancroft OPP wish to remind residents travelling in the area to be cautious of wildlife on and near the roads in the area. You can prevent wildlife collisions by:
• Scanning the roadway from side-to-side, watch for shining eyes, use high beams where possible and take notice of yellow wildlife warning signs.
• Reduce your speed, this increases the time to react safely to the unexpected and decreases the distance required to stop.
• If you see one deer, slow down as they seldom travel alone.
