VUJNIC – Careless Driving, Distracted Driving, etc.

(TEMAGAMI, ON) – On March 28, 2016, a member of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11, Marten River.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. police stopped a northbound tractor trailer unit for erratic driving. Through investigation a 32-year-old man is facing several charges.

Momcilo VUJNIC of Hamilton is charged with:

Careless Driving – section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act

Distracted Driving (hand-held communication device) – section 78.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

Fail to Maintain Daily Log – section 190(3) of the Highway Traffic Act

Fail to Surrender Insurance Card – section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The OPP would like to remind the public that distracted driving is any activity which takes a driver’s attention away from driving.

Some types of distractions include: adjusting the stereo, searching for something in the car, eating or drinking while driving, using a hand-held device, grooming, watching television or other entertainment devices, tending to children in the back seat and more.

Driving is a complex task which requires your full attention. You are operating a heavy piece of machinery at high speeds, navigating in diverse weather conditions, while calculating speeds and distance, plus always responding to other drivers and obstacles.

All distractions while driving endanger lives.
