(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TWP, ON) – On December 31, 2015 at 9:55pm the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident where two people sustained serious injuries at a residence located on County Road 2, west of Grafton, Ontario.
Two persons from that residence were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and were subsequently transferred to a Toronto area trauma centre.
Daniel Stewart GRANT, age 61 of no fixed address, was located and arrested by responding officers and at that time was charged with two counts of attempt murder.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Northumberland Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Gilles Depratto of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
Last week, one of the victims, Delores BYERS age 82 died from injuries sustained in the New Year’s Eve incident.
As a result of this recent development, Mr. Grant is now facing the upgraded charge of First Degree Murder and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 16 , 2016.
