Victim Identified In Fatal Hwy 401 Collision

(COLBORNE, ON) –On September 14, 2016 at 10:37pm the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 west of the Percy Street exit at Colborne.

Witnesses reported that a BMW had rear-ended a tractor-trailer while it was traveling in the right lane and caught on fire. The fire was extinguished by the uninjured truck driver using a fire extinguisher. Alnwick-Haldimand Township firefighters attended and extricated the driver who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A small dog that was in the car survived the crash and was taken into care by the Humane Society.

The deceased driver has now been identified as Lucas David BROADBENT age 21 of Belleville, Ontario.
