(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Sunday, August 10, 2014, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit checked 27 vessels while patrolling Lake Eugenia, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. Of those checked, two vessels were found with an insufficient number of life jackets for persons onboard. Both vessels were escorted off the water.
The operators of the vessels, James HOLDER, 59, of Orangeville, Ontario and Ryan GALEA, 20, of the Municipality of Grey Highlands, were each issued a Provincial Offence Notice under the Small Vessel Regulations of the Canada Shipping Act.
Grey County OPP Marine Unit remind vessel operators that a proper sized life jacket is required for each person on board.
Further, on Saturday, August 9, 2014, two 13 year old boys found fishing on Little Lake (off of Barrow Bay) in Bruce Peninsula in a 9.9 hp -14’ aluminum boat, with no life jackets on board, were escorted back to shore by OPP Marine Unit and turned over to a responsible adult.
