VESSEL COLLISION

(SPRINGWATER TWP, ON) – On Sunday August 10, 2014 at approximately 6:30 pm Huronia West OPP investigated a vessel collision on Orr Lake in Springwater Township east of Elmvale, Ontario.

OPP officers responded to the incident where a 61 year old male and his 29 year old son were operating two separate watercrafts. The father was on a Jet Ski being followed by his son in a Jet Ski boat. He was crisscrossing the wake from the Jet Ski out in open water.

The father slowed down for unknown reasons and the son struck the Jet Ski sending his father into the water. The man was wearing a personal floatation device (PFD) and was retrieved unconscious from the water with the assistance of other vessel operators on the lake and taken to shore to be turned over to waiting paramedics.

The male was transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre for serious but undetermined injuries. The son was uninjured.

Huronia West OPP officers are continuing to investigate this incident with speed being a factor. There was no alcohol involved. Small Vessel Regulation charges are pending.

OPP would like to thanks those boaters who were in the area and offered assistance in rescuing the man.
