VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On April 3, 2014 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement when a vehicle with an expired validation sticker was observed.

The officer stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the driver detected the presence of marihuana in the vehicle. The subsequent investigation revealed the presence of several drugs in the vehicle. Seized from the vehicle was a small quantity of marihuana, gamma hydroxybutyrate and heroin.

As a result of the investigation Aaron PRETTO-VOPNI, 36 years of age, of Toronto was charged with the following offences:

Possession of marihuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
Possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, contrary to the CDSA
Possession for the purpose of trafficking gamma hydroxybutyrate, contrary to the CDSA
Three counts of fail to comply with a recognizance, contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on April 4, 2014.
