Vehicle In Lake Leads To Fatality

(KENORA, ON) – On Wednesday, August 21, 2013, approximately 4:13 pm, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Treaty Three Police responded to a report of a vehicle in the water somewhere between Kenora and Keewatin. It was discovered that the vehicle was eastbound on Lakeview Drive when it crossed the westbound lane and entered the Lake of the Woods east of the Cameron Bay Bridge. OPP and Treaty Three officers on the scene were able to remove the driver who was the lone occupant from the submerged vehicle and with the assistance of fire and ambulance personnel get him to the waiting ambulance. Citizens at the scene also provided assistance. The driver who has been identified as 48 year old Robert CHISEL of Kenora was in critical condition at the time and was later pronounced dead at the Lake of The Woods District Hospital. A post mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Lake of The Woods District Hospital in Kenora.
