Update: Two Face Charges In Fatal Hit And Run Of 16 Year Old – Drunk Driving

(GRENVILLE, ON) – On September 1, 2013 at approximately 12:30am, members of the Grenville detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a hit and run collision on County Road 2, near Irace Drive, Augusta Township.

Upon arriving, officers launched an investigation, notifying the Brockville Police Service.

A short time later, Brockville Police Service arrested a 23-year-old, Augusta Township male who is facing charges of:
– Impaired Driving
– Over 80 and
– Indignity to a dead body

The OPP arrested a second adult male later in the morning. A 21-year-old, Brockville male is facing charges of:
– Fail to remain at the scene of an accident contrary to the Criminal Code and
– Indignity to a dead body

Both men are being held in police custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Brockville by video remand on Monday, September 2, 2013.

A 16-year-old Brockville male was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. His name is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin. A post mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in Ottawa.

The joint investigation, led by OPP Acting Detective Inspector Jim Smyth Criminal Investigation Branch, is continuing.
