UPDATE – ROAD CLOSURES

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Due to the severe thunderstorms earlier today, the

Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police reported several road closures due to flooding and washouts.

Below is a list of updated road closures:

Road closures North of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:

Highway 552 east is closed between the intersection of Highway 556 and Kirby’s Corners.

Highway 556 is closed between Highway 17 and Bellevue Valley Road.

Local residents living off of Highway 556 will be permitted to travel the roadway north up until the washout on Highway 556 south of Bellevue Valley Road.

Residents travelling south from Searchmont will have to take a detour onto Bellevue Valley Road then Highway 552 travelling west to access Highway 17.

Kelly Creek Road in Goulais River remains closed.

Thielman Road in Goulais River remains closed.

Mission Road on the Batchewana First Nation in Goulais River remains closed west of the 2400 block.

Road closures East of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:

Highway 638 is closed at the junction of Highway 17.

Bar River Road remains closed.

Cemetery Road remains closed.

Pioneer Road (between Watson’s Road and Highway 638) is closed.

OPP ask that drivers remain cautious through these areas as maintenance crews will be working throughout the night to make the necessary road repairs.
