(ALNWICK HALDIMAND, ON) – On Sunday January 19, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended to a sudden death at a residence in Alnwick-Haldimand Township involving a firearm.
The Northumberland OPP uniform and Crime Unit members, the OPP Forensic Identification Service Unit (FISU) from Peterborough assisted the Ontario Coroner’s Office in the investigation where 27 year old male Brandon Keith MEILLEUR was found deceased.
This ongoing investigation is also being assisted by OPP Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU), under the direction of Detective Inspector Kari DART of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and has resulted in the arrest of Devin Peter VUGTS, age 27 from Cobourg, Ontario.
The accused has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and obstructing Police. The accused is schedule to appear by video in the Ontario Court of Justice today in Cobourg.
