UPDATE: Huron East Man Facing Animal Cruelty, Assault With Weapon Charges – Name Released

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST, ON) – As a result of a criminal investigation at a residence along North Line between Hydro Line Road and Bridge Road on Wednesday afternoon November 16, 2016, the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a male.

Due to nature of the investigation and to ensure public safety, North Line was closed by the OPP for over four hours. Specialized OPP Units were deployed to the rural property ensuring a safe outcome to the investigation and the arrest of a male at the scene.

40-year-old Shawn Douglas ELLIOTT of The Municipality of Huron East has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

– Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous purpose

– Cruelty to animals

– Assault Causing Bodily Harm

– Assault with a weapon x2

– Assault

– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

He remains in custody and is to appear for a bail hearing.

MALE APPREHENDED AT RURAL RESIDENCE

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST, ON) – On Wednesday afternoon November 16, 2016, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended at a rural residence along North Line between Hydro Line Road and Bridge Road as a result of a criminal investigation.

While investigating, officers requested assistance from specialized OPP units in an effort to ensure the safety of all persons in the area of the rural residence. West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) members as well as a canine unit attended the scene. Shortly before 5 p.m. one male was taken into custody without incident.

North Line between Hydro Line Road and Bridge Road was closed by the OPP for approximately four and a half hours to allow for a safe investigation. The road was re-opened at 5:40 p.m.

The Huron County OPP is continuing their investigation and additional details will be released when they become available.

At no time was there any threat or danger to the public or any neighbouring residences.
