(Mapleton Township, ON) – On Tuesday August 27, 2013 at approximately 9:14am Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a serious motor collision involving a tractor trailer and a tanker truck on County Road 7 just north of the Village of Rothsay.
Officers responded along with Guelph-Wellington Emergency Services (EMS) and the Mapleton Township Fire and Rescue. Investigation revealed that a south bound 2007 Mac tractor trailer collided with a 2014 Volvo tanker truck that was making a left hand turn on to County Road 7 from a private driveway. The tanker truck rolled over and the tractor trailer burst into flames on impact.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Marshall McCartney aged 24 of Wiarton succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
There was dense fog in the area at the time of the collision.
The County of Wellington OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) along with a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) officer attended and were assisted by the West Region Collision Reconstructionists.
Investigators from the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) were notified and attended the scene.
County Road 7 remains closed at County Road 10 and Side Road 6 at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.
