UPDATE – Fatal Collision on Hwy 401

(FRONTENAC, ON)- Officers with the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of a three vehicle collision last night on Highway 401 e/b at Division Street in Kingston.

The collision occurred while traffic was stopped due to ongoing construction.

A tractor trailer in the centre lane was stopped and a second vehicle, a Mazda was stopped behind it. A third vehicle, a Dodge Caliber, struck the Mazda sending it into the back of the tractor trailer.

The driver of the Mazda, 35 year-old Timothy STEVENSON of Gananoque was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the tractor trailer were unhurt. The driver of the Dodge Caliber was transported to Kingston General Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

A post-mortem is scheduled to take place today at KGH.

The highway was closed for seven hours while OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were on scene.

Charges are pending further investigation.
