Unsupervised Teen Party On Catherine Street Gets Out Of Hand – Multiple Charges

At 12:05 am on 1 January, Wingham Police were called to a Catherine Street address where a party involving several youths had gotten out of hand, spilling onto the street and neighbours’ properties. Upon police arrival, an 18 year old Kincardine youth was observed on the street with an open container of liquor. He immediately ran into the garage and police followed him. Once inside the garage, police observed a large number of youth partying. There were no adults present. The party was broken up by the police and for the most part, the youths were cooperative.

One 16 year old Brussels area youth continued to argue with police and while they were dealing with another youth, he decided to urinate on the police cruiser. The 16 year old was arrested for intoxicated in public and transported to the police station where he was eventually picked up by a sober parent. Two charges of person under 19 consuming liquor and one being intoxicated in a public place were laid.

Police would like to remind parents that although the Liquor License Act allows for youth to drink in a residence, it stipulates that it must be under the supervision of a parent. This means the youth’s parent not just any parent. There were no parents present at this party.
