Underwater Search And Recovery Unit Searching For Missing 16 Year Old

(KENORA, ON) – The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance in locating a 16 year old girl from Kenora who was reported missing on February 28, 2016.

The search has expanded into the surrounding areas of Kenora and is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP K9 Unit, the OPP Provincial Liaison Team (PLT), Canadian Pacific Police Service, Treaty Three Police, Lake of the Woods Search and Rescue (LOWSAR), the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and a large number of community volunteers.

The OPP remains committed to determining the whereabouts of Delaine Copenace and is using every available resource. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) has been brought in to assist with the ongoing investigation. The public can expect to see continued police activity in lakes and bodies of water in and around the Kenora area in the days to come as the investigation continues. In the meantime, with the arrival of milder temperatures and melting snow, the OPP are continuing to ask residents this weekend to search their property and outbuildings for anything that may appear to be out of the ordinary or out of place. Should anything be located, you are asked to call the OPP immediately at (807) 548-5534 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).

In the event any members of the community find something they deem to be suspicious, they are asked not to touch the item/area and call the OPP. Any information, regardless how small should be reported to police. The public’s assistance is critical in locating Delaine.
