The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two women in connection with a break and enter in Chatham.
Yesterday, around noon, an officer in the area of Wellington Street East observed two women known to him around a residence carrying backpacks. The one woman walked towards the residence and returned moments later carrying a plastic tote full of items while the other woman waited outside. The woman made a few trips back and forth from the residence while the woman outside moved the items out of sight near a fence. Both women rummaged through the items and placed selected articles in their backpacks.
Officers approached the women and they were taken into custody. Through investigation, officers learned that entry into the residence had been gained through a window. All stolen items were recovered and returned to the homeowner.
Upon searching the one woman’s backpack incident to arrest, the officer found her to be in possession of a pry bar, pliers, flashlights, box cutters, screwdrivers and personal identification belonging to a Wallaceburg woman.
A 19-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, possession of break-in instruments, and two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
A 27-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
Both women have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
