Two Snowmobiles Go Through Ice

(Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County OPP have confirmed four people escaped uninjured from the icy water.

In breaking daylight, investigators discovered tracks leading to a cottage on the lake.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, the OPP have been able to confirm that 2 males and 2 females safely made their way ashore after the incident and that all the persons involved have been accounted for.

Peterborough County OPP would like to thank the public for their help in reporting this incident and would like to remind residents that unseasonably mild weather has made area lakes hazardous for winter activities. No ice is safe ice.

TWO SNOWMOBILES THROUGH THE ICE ON JACK LAKE

(Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating reports that two snowmobiles have gone through the ice on Jack Lake.

Emergency crews from North Kawartha Fire/Rescue, Peterborough Ambulance and OPP were called shortly after midnight to the area of Grigg’s Island on Jack Lake where they received‎ confirmed reports that two snowmobiles were seen traveling on the ice when they suddenly disappeared. Rescue attempts were hampered overnight by high winds, darkness and very thin ice.

Members of the OPP can confirm that snowmobiles have gone through the ice. However, it is not clear, at this time, if the riders were able to self-rescue and made it to safety.

Peterborough County OPP investigators are looking for any information about the overdue snowmobilers. Residents are encouraged to contact the Provincial Communications Centre (PCC) at 1-888-310-1122 with information.
