Two Separate Vehicle Stops Leads To Charges

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On August 11, 2016, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, near Mississauga First Nation west of Blind River.

Police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result, the driver Charles KLASSEN, 43 years of age, from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The rear passenger, Chris CATHCART, 30 years of age from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Passenger- Not Wearing Seatbelt, contrary to section 106(3)(b) of the HTA.

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – August 11, 2016, shortly before 9:00 p.m., OPP were on regular patrol duties in the Town of Blind River. Police observed a westbound vehicle on Causley Street travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated.

The driver, Derek VROOM, 25 years of age from Victoria, British Columbia, was issued two provincial notices and charged with:

Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA; and

Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor licence Act (LLA).

The passenger, Celeste SCARNA, 20 years of age from Toronto, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: • Consuming Liquor in Other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to section 31(2) of the LLA.
