Two Racing Charges A Few Hours Apart

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) In two separate incidents over the weekend, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer charged two men with racing.

The first incident occurred Friday May 1, 2015, just before 9:30 p.m., when an officer observed a westbound Infiniti SUV near Charing Cross Road that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 174 km/hr.

As a result, the 19 year old male driver, from Toronto, has been charged with racing. He will appear in a Chatham court on June 3, 2015, to answer to the charge.

Approximately four hours later, just after 1:30 a.m., on Saturday May 2, 2015, the officer observed a westbound Chrysler 300 near Charing Cross Road that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 181 km/hr.

Further investigation revealed that the 21 year old driver, from Gloucester, ON, was a Class G1 driver, and that his driver’s licence was suspended x2.

As a result, he will appear in a Chatham court on June 3, 2015, to answer to the following charges:

· Race A Motor Vehicle

· Driving While Under Suspension

· Class G1 Licence Holder Drive On Prohibited Highway

· Class G1 Licence Holder Drive At Unlawful Hour

In each incident, the driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.
